Match Report: Kilburn Cosmo’s Ladies vs. Harlequin Ladies
On a muddy, cold wet Sunday a relatively new Kilburn side welcomed the Harlequin Ladies for their first league fixture of 2016.
A slow start from The Quins Ladies let Kilburn in for 2 tries. But with grit and determination Club Captain Kate Goater (who is out with a broken thumb) fired up the developing side. With water on board, the time to switch on was imminent.
Coach Dave Maloney wanted Scrum Half Jo Plinston ‘fizzing’, with calls from the fly half for an 8 pick up by Kam Uppal at the back of an uncontested scrum, Jo #9 received the ball and sped through to add points to the board for the Harlequin Ladies. Shortly followed by 2 more speedy tries from the Scrum Half securing her first ever hat trick.
It was clear that Quins had far more to give and prove, keeping a strong defensive line with most of the game play in the oppositions half.
Forwards Captain Laura (Stevo) Stephenson broke through Kilburn’s defence like a bulldozer securing 2 more tries, (unlucky not to secure a third, for a double movement) between the posts, easy pickings for kicking fly-half Shauna Kiernan.
A messy game with plenty of breakdowns and some very questionable refereeing decisions ended early as Kilburn Ladies who only arrived with 12 ladies had 3 consecutive injuries calling time on a great win for Harlequin Ladies.
“ A great birthday present for me, same again next week please!” – Coach Dave Maloney.
