Harlequin Ladies have celebrated their 21st in spectacular fashion, with four babies in one season! With two boys and two girls arriving throughout 2016/17, the baby boom resulted in the loss of two scrum halves, a centre and number 8, but with a growing squad, the ladies have coped well. It was Club Captain Kate Goater, and husband Paul, who coaches the ladies, who kicked things off in September by welcoming Oliver Mark Freddie Goater. Next in line will be scrum half Jo Plinston and husband Tom, who will introduce the newest Harlequin Lady in April. Centre Sharnie Van Lith and fianceé Scott will then complete the boys duo in May, with scrum half Frankie Formby and partner George ending the season with another girl in June. There must be something in the water in South-West London, because this awesome foursome, like the famous quartered shirt, is quite unique!
Not only are good things happening off the pitch, but at the time of writing, the ladies are sitting third in their league. A win away at Battersea Ironsides on Sunday 19th March could see them finish the season in second, their highest placed finish in a number of years. The ladies have recruited a squad of over 30 players, as well as securing the services of four coaches, and with momentum building throughout the year, HLFC will return to the main club in 2017/18 in a very strong position. We look forward to being a major part of a growing Harlequin Ladies next season, with the elite and junior girls set ups helping us to become a dominant force in Women & Girls rugby.
