PITCH UP & PLAY 2016

27th November 2016 10:30-12:30 Old Isleworthians RFC

If you still thought rugby was just for men, think again. Participation in women’s rugby has doubled in the past 10 years and, of course, England Women are 15-a-side world champions. Keen to attract even more women to the game, England Rugby have launched their new women and girls’ programme, 'Pitch up and Play'.

After a successful start to the season, Harlequin Ladies have jumped on board and are hosting their own Pitch up & Play event ahead of the Harlequins v Bath game on Sunday 27th November at their home ground, Old Isleworthians RFC. The event will run from 10.30-12.30, and is in partnership with Harlequins, as well as the RFU, who will be providing support and coaching on the day.

The key focus is encouraging women into the sport with inclusive, enjoyable and informative sessions, whether they’re brand new to rugby, a sofa supporter or a returning player. With an introduction to tackling, the Pitch up and Play event will also include skills, fitness and match play. The session will build confidence and contact, fitness and femininity whilst providing a playing field for ladies to discover what makes them strong. It's a fantastic opportunity for any women to come along and meet/train with the Harlequin Ladies, as well as receive expert coaching from the RFU!

The session will be completely free (there will also be hot food and refreshments provided for all participants!) and will provide a fantastic introduction to newcomers aged 18 and over, so bring along a friend, family member or colleague to give rugby in those famous quarters a try!
